I believe that the bluefin would be the winner. Water temps play an important role. There will be more oxygen in the cooler water and that would help the bluefin have more fuel for the fire. They share similar anatomy, so that is why I am going with the fish in the cooler water. I believe that the warmer the fishes muscles become, the harder it is for them to dissipate the lactic acid that builds up as they fight.

I am no fish biologist, and I have battled a few tuna, but.....I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night.

I wish I could find about 5 of each on the same day to conduct a experiment. Then I whould give you all the low down. It's been so long since I've caught a Yellow Fin that I don't know if I remember what they look like.

Bing. Bing. Bing. We have a winner. A bluefin caught in 67 degree water will kick the crap out of one in 57 degree water, then double pimp slap him in the mouth.

Bluefin. 20 to 90 pounds.... I have not caught a triple digit Yellowfin to compare them to my triple digit bluefins...

But to throw a different wrinkle in here.... Has anyone else noticed this?

Yellowfin at night are not nearly as tough as yellowfin during the day... not that I have caught hundreds at night but that is my experience. And I have never caught a bluefin in anything darker than grey light dawn. So I don't know how they fight at night.

Water temps clearly effect the fight. What about nighttime versus daytime?

A 200# yft would drag a 200# bft around backwards! there is no comparison! If yft got to be the size of giant bluefins they would have to come out with new tackle.I've caught em and leadered both over 300# and the yft is a nastier dog in that fight.

At 80 and 200lbs, what is the age and length of both Yellowfin and Bluefin??? An older fish may be bigger and lazy but also smarter.
