    Bluefin Update

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) adjusts the daily Atlantic bluefin tuna (BFT) General category retention limit, applicable to vessels permitted in the commercial Atlantic tunas General category and the Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Charter/Headboat category, for the time period of September 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008, from the default limit of one large medium or giant BFT (measuring 73 inches curved fork length or greater) to three large medium or giant BFT, per vessel per day/trip. Please see the attached notice for further details, or visit http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/sfa/hms/breaking_news.htm. NMFS expects the associated Federal Register notice to be published tomorrow, August 29th.

It makes it worth the money to go for the guys that hop on a charter, 1 100-150 lb tuna dont go real far when you split it 5 or 6 ways, 3 will justify it for alot of fellas...i know just being out there is great but meatndabox is even nicer.mmmmm I can see getting some bluefin smoked at tates in the near future

You guys are reading this wrong. This applies to general category boats and charterboat/head boats when they're fishing commercially (no charter). When you're fishing on a booked charter the limit is the same as it was before this notice. This is in response to the fact that of the 27 metric tons have been landed out of a 740 metric ton quota.
