Bluefin Report 11/19

Given the forecast and proximity of warm water moving into the Hudson Canyon , I decided to give it one more shot for a day trip on Saturday. I made my way down the East wall but only had 53 degree water at the east elbow , so I continued down to the 100square, where I found an 11 degree break. I set up just off the edge in 64.7 degree water and got the longfin going , putting 3 huge fish in before they turned off. I continued to read the fish , but could not get them to bite, so i moved back up to the break and set up in 61 degree water. Shortly after getting set up , we had a good hookup and brought the first of what would be many bluefin to the boat. It was an awesome day of catching and releasing bluefin in the 200 lb class, keeping one 67 inch fish to go with the three longfin in the box. Sitting out there, it was hard to believe it was late November .. great fishing , lite winds and t shirt weather. I dont know if thats it for the 2005 canyon season for me ... I could be convinced to go again if everything was right. If I dont, I had an awesome 2005 .. a season that began June 4 and lasted over 6-1/2 months .. a season of over 100 days spent in one of the Northeast canyons .. a season of over 1000 tuna caught with many released. I am looking foward to getting down to Morehead and finishing out my year on a continued high note ....

I would say they ranged from from about 110-200 lbs .. the one we kept was around 180 . I was hoping to find some bigger fish , but we were happy. We did pull a hook on what seemed to be a larger fish ..

Everything was on the chunk while we drifted .. we didnt try trolling , but the fish were holding deep .. most marks and bites between 150-180 feet

Great to see someone keeping the Northeast Canyons going. Looking at the Temps and the weather it looked Like A good day for November. Was there any other sporty boats fishing the area?

Madchark .. I was very surprised with the weather and nice water moving in that only one other boat made the run ... they fished nearby us and had a great trip as well. Most other diehards I know were fishing the Mudhole and had tough trips
