    Question Bluefin at the Jackspot

Not sure if there is any truth to this but figured i'd put it out there to see what you guys think. A friend told me that he was speaking to a gentleman who was in the vacinity of the jackspot this past weekend seabassin and ran into major bunker schools and marked what he was certain were Giants under the bunker schools. My friend told me this guy was not BSING and seemed to really know what he was talking about...Makes sense to me, but what do you guys think??? :

Two giants were pulled up dead in monkfish nets off the monster ledge.

They are here all year round, don't be mistaken

I would bet they are....after jan31st everone stops fishing for the giants because the season is over..so there is no point in trying to figure out where they are. ahhh if only NMFS would keep the season open longer.

Heres what I think about the Jackspot.
    For What it's worth.
From what I hear the Jackspot was the place to be before fiberglass and hi speed offshore boats.
short way to the 20 fathom fingers.
    Structure all over the place,
    Wrecks, Yep off the Jackspot.
    Drop offs, Yep,
    Tuna, Sometimes,
    Shark, Sometimes,
Bluefish, Most times unless they are at the fingers or beyond
Pissin those Marlin fisherman off by cuttin off expensive gear..
Mahi, Yep Just off the Jackspot on the Pots.
Came in one day and talked to a guy on a good size offshore boat. Maybe 45'. He was excited cause he just caught his first blue Marlin. fished for em but this was his first.
Yep Ya may have guessed it, He was at the Jackspot.
If you can get a good Bathymetric (spelling may be wrong.)chart of the area.
You might be amazed at the structure and depth changes between the 2'nd-3'rd lump-Jackspot,20 fathom fingers.
And don't forget the twin wrecks.
Somewhere there is a 60-90 foot immediate depth change.
I don't have the numbers handy but I'm sure I have them written down somewhere.
Caught a 225# Mako in the area.
I wouldn't fish for Marlin at the Jackspot
    but
Ya never Know, and if you can get to the Jackspot,
Couple miles puts ya at the 20 fathom fingers.
It and the area around it can provide some fun
    and un-expected fishing.
    Goi for it.

I think there is truth in what has been said, but I think that water is to cold now. The fish are out there in the late and early season when nobody is looking. I know of two late season (december) bluefins being caught out of OC. One was several hundred pounds. Like mentioned earlier bluefins in a monkfish net. I would think that was in the deep and obviosly on the bottom. I always have a negative reaction when I hear a giants off OC story, because it is always from a guy, who knows a guy, who heard from a guy, who saw them not caught them. But yes I think they are there in some of the off season.

I heard from a guy, who knows a guy, who talked to another guy's uncle, who overhread a conversation by someone else on his cell phone that the Jack Spot is deader than a door nailin winter. Don't waste your time man. Don't be rediculous. If there were GBFT at the Spot in the winter, everybody would be there. The Spot is not a new location. It's been around for decades. The only giants there are giant bluefish. Otherwise there'ld be sooooooo many boats there, you'd see them from land.

I caught a bluefin dec 6th 2008 just east of the jack spot, water temp was 53.5 deg. There were large bluefin on top, we saw them, maybe giants, hard to tell, but they were there no doubt.

Water temp right now at jackspot is around 42 deg by rutgers sat. not likely, it dosent hit 52 until way out past the 100 fathom line, can BFT live in 42 deg water? I don't know
