Welcome aboard to both of you.

Every year at this time questions about chunking cause a little angst among the OC guys who plan to fish the OC Tuna Tournement because in years past enormous fleets of chunkers have caused the bluefins to change their feeding habits making it difficult to get a bite while trolling(it's a trolling only tournement.).

On the other hand the last several years have seen fewer people chunking and more people trolling and jigging and catching decent numbers of fish without the butters.

Not to step on anyones toes, but I have always done extremely well chunking during the OC tuna tourney....I shouldn't say chunking since we only use 1 flat, and then we jig. Its always been one of the best days.

I know what you mean Gooch, but you better clear up what you said- I am assuming you meant that you do well chunking while others are fishing the OCTT- wouldn't want anyone to construe that you are cheating during the tourney.

I always feel that people should fish how they want to- if you can't catch them trolling, by all means chunk. When you get tired of watching balloons, Jig. When you get tire of watching me troll by you catching 150 pounders (back when it was legal) start trolling again (that is good natured ribbing folks, don't get all flamed up!!)

Other than night time, and a few random days, the past 3 years have been slow chunking and better trolling on Delmarva. In the 90's chunkning was easy and effective. It all depends on the year. To be competitive in today's fishery you need to be well versed in all aspects of the game- thats why I intend to get better at jigging.

Looks like a pretty weekend coming up- I hope that everyone gets out and catches an ass load of fish no matter what method they choose.
