Great day aboard the FishNchips with Capt Brian and mate Jay.
The day started with a call to our 5th guy….where you at…
So, When he arrives, we get rolling to the Bluefin grounds.
Made it there in time to get a SWEET 54” bluefing in the box jigging.
He Hit a PBJ with a JOBO hook. On a JPR all round jigging rod.
The Angler Flattop wore the fish out and handed the rod off,
I was able to finish the fight getting a great bend in the rod and testing the Accurate reel.
A great combo. For these size fish.
Had a few more bites.
Nothing more for the box.
Then We headed to the canyon for a o/nite adventure.
After arriving in the fish area at appox 5pm we set out a trolling spread to see what was around while we were looking for a spot to setup for the nite.
I was sitting on the gunnell and a Bluemarlin starts crashing the spread,
Came in started hitting a chugger, then came back in and smacked a bally…game on.
The fish of course hit the PENN30VS, With almost all the line gone, and backing down, we were able to get some line back.
After some GREAT boat handling, we had the fish closer. And a good amount of line on.
The Standup battle lasted just over a hour,
with fish at the 40’ mark for a while.
We could see the fish, he would head for under the boat more than once
More GREAT boat handling. The captain did a GREAT job.
We had the Fish in site, the lure in site, and the short tuna leader just about 10 out of reach,
A little more heat on the PENN30VS and the line is singing, rod is bending.
Finally, we get the leader out of the water, The mate jay grabs the leader, once, twice,
A Caught fish.
Just as we get to Bill him.
The Leader at the hook gives way….a great release,
It was a Battle, a caught fish, and a healthy release.
And MY first Blue Marlin est weight 350#
At Nite, Dolphin, Whales, rays, we seen it all out there.
I heard we Even had a whale shark right next to the boat.
The O/Nite was slow. A good time to catch a little rest.
The Morning winds picked up about 4am, was a little sporty for a few hours,
We did some jigging, chunking and trolling,
Had a wahoo, tuna , and I think a dolphin flapping around.
Lost a nice tuna at the boat,
Saw a wahoo go airborne and bite the lure.
Overall a great trip with great friends,
Hope to get back out soon.
THANKS Brian for the BLUE.
