Deadbaiter, check out San Sal and Cat Island in May as Trey said, I have fished both of them in May & June and the Blue Marlin Bite was awesome every trip we made there. Cat has their BM Tourny in early May and Hawks Nest is booked 1 year in advance. You will get your shots at em there for sure

if it was up to me....

get the Over under guys to fish 4-5 days Rum cay with you ... not anythig real exciting there but the fishing is great and weather does not shut you out. plenty of different big fish (tuna & wahoo) also in a day there. bottom fishing is also great. fly in and fish your way there you don't have far for fish . get to Venz. is my next choice...

Good advice on Venezuela and the Bahamas. I have fished both extensively and can vouch for there being great fishing in both venues. However, if you're interested in grand or super grand slams, Venezuela and La Guaria Bank is the place. That's because many times of the year (check on that) the bank is infested with sails and whites with plenty of blues mixed in, but the real reason I'm saying this is the good chance of getting a daytime, deep drop swordfish to complete the Super.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the Bahamas starts deep dropping and catching daytime swords. We'll see.

One last comment. It's good to have a good set of sea legs if you fish Venezuela. The Bank has plenty of days when that sure comes in handy. If in doubt about that, it's "patch time", even if you don't like them. Far better to patch up and manage to stay up and catching fish than it is laying in a cabin, sick as a dog and hearing all of the whooping and hollering of others murdering 'em.

If you are considering the Bahamas in May, you want to come between May 9 and 23. That's the right side of the moon. Typically the bite will be best starting 3-5 days after the Full Moon. Like everything in this business, this is a generization, not a rule, but it's definitely the time to bet on.

Good advice, Trey, but I wouldn't worry about going on the other side of the moon either. Wherever I've fished for them - and that's been in a lot of places, including the North Drop and many more, my best action on blue ones came on the last five or so days before the moon during certain months. Odd how we've had what sound like pretty drastic differences in results. I dunno, maybe I was holding my mouth wrong - or right, depending on which side of the moon you're looking from!

Fred, you are right...different places different bites, that's why they call it fishin. most of the guys I know that have fished the SE bahamas for blue marlin a lot all seem to agree that if you had to pick 5 days to fish, you want to start fishign 3 days after the moon. now if someone could just let the fish know we'd be all set.

this past year in June, fishing in San Sal, we were on a 5 day excursion, moving between cat/rum/san sal/etc.. it was pretty slow. we were seeing 1 fish a day, maybe 2 if we were lucky, ;picking away at dolphin/tuna and stuff, but the marlin bite was slow. Then the last day of the trip (3 days after the moon) it exploded. We had 7 bites or something before noon......crazy how that is. this was on the SW corner of San Sal (Sandy Point). It went off over at Rum on the same day....when they bite around there, they bite everywhere, when they don't, usually they don't.

Bahamas has been good to me at that time of year. Chub Cay wanes a bit after mid month but the bite fires up Harbour Island way and up through the Abacos...
