blue marlin in costa rica with Randy Jones

had the cy young award winner Randy jones with the outdoor channel filming his show the strike zone. we started out inshore fishing light tackle, we had great action with roosterfish but pulled hooks on 3 big ones. we ended up with a 10lb blue trevelly and a 15lb yellowfin.

then offshore for a lucky big bite. we had a pitch bait ready for sailfish a 20lb rig and a 50lb rig for marlin. short corner teaser got hammered after 10min of trolling. I called out sailfish since the fish was windshield wiper strikeing so
Randy grabbed the 20lb drop back, with a dead blue runner and a 7/0 eagle claw circle hook, on 80lb leader. the sailfish came up and i said uh oh thats no sailfish but give it to him anyway and Randy kept his cool and fed the marlin perfectly and we where on.

a 1hr fight 150lb blue jumped great and came in for a nice healthy release.
Randy was sweatin bullets, light tackle for a marlin but what a battle!!

we then ran inshore on the way home and came across a breezer of roosters and missed a triple header!!!!!!!!damn we had bad luck on the rooster that day. bacfk to treble hooks hahahah

water is still green down south here in costa but there are logs with dorado and small tunas with some blues mixin it up.
