what are the regulatoins for killing a bluefin if you are not on a charter boat? If you look at the hatteras harbor reports those boys are killing there 1 fish a day but those fish are clearly over the 60 inch mark.

It seems you think I was trying to start something by using "those boys" as a derogatory term, I was just curious because I come down there and fish quite often wanted some clarity on the regualtions..... The bluefin tuna regualtions seem to change everytime you check the NMFS website. Sorry if I offened you but meant no harm.

If anybody in North Carolina keeps only ONE fish over "73 per year, I'll eat my hat.
... and using jig/popping tackle on #200+ fish is terrific for the resource - must be a lot of happy crabs down that way - but here comes the spring pre-spawn-size slaughter anyway
Especially hearing 'went 3/13, broke a lot off....'
The charter guys who are also commercial kill their allowed amount of 73"+ to sell. When rec fishing keep their under 73" fish.
Jigging and popping tackle actually leads to shorter fights a lot of times. Those guys are getting fish to the boat in 30 minutes or less most of the time.

In the hands of experienced people maybe. but not most of the time
We are just supposed to look at them bustin all around, just so can catch what you want? They are just fish in a huge ocean. By the way, I'm from NC and my boat only kept one last year (under 73 "). We did keep numerous yellowfins, wahoo, dolphin, tilefis, seabass, amberjack, bee liner's, rock, etc....... Yes we ate them all, none went to market. All you gotta do is change zip code's! Frank
