    Bimini in May

A group of us are staying at Bimini Big Game Resort in May and need to find a charter boat for 2-3 days of Marlin fishing and a few guides for 1-2 days of flats.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chad

I run full package hard core trips there in May. Working on this years callendar as we speak. Though we do the offshore side we get a number of guests that we hook up with bonefish guides during their stay...
I love the local charter guys like brothers but their standard gig is to troll wire line way back and catch a mix of stuff. The bonefish guides though are really top shelf.
Drop me a PM if you have in depth questions, I'd be happy to help...

The fishing out of Bimi in May is slow!!!! I would suggest deep dropping and you will get plenty of action. I took my boat over for a week hired 3 different local captains and everyone said to fish Bimini in Nov-Dec. They get a good run of Wahoo at that time of year. I'm not saying you won't get a shot at some marlin or tuna but don't expect much and you won't be disapointed. You can have alot of fun hooking tarpon at the doc's.

George I'm sorry you guys went and had a slow go. From your reports you went far and wide instead of hammering the real tight hot spots at the right time and tide. That can't be found by anything other than several years of experience. Hell, I got schooled big time when I couldn't dig up a good grouper. A local took me and taught me a mountain of stuff. That day we had several jumbos including two over 60lbs. Its there if you take the time to learn it.
Yes there is a good run of wahoo in November to Late Feb... I'll be there at both ends of the run this year... But May opens up all kinds of possibilities. We see a billfish abour every other day and aren't working it all that hard on the troll. The reefs are off the charts good and if you want to fish late day and deep tuna can be had almost every afternoon. The other trick is to stick to and pound the right spots at the right tide.
Tide current, wind, all mean a ton over there. When we get that dialed in its very good. If we just go and fish blind numbers fall off. We only went back on the May game a couple years ago and spent much of the trip pinpointing those little differences that mean so much. Aprils game we had pretty well down, is slightly different and requires split precision dealing with those differences. Now we have those May notes to work off and will be a whole lot more confident this year.
When I say pinpoint I mean just that. I watched a body of strawberries move during our stay. Less than two hundred yards as the crow flies but if you were one foot deep or shallow of where they held or a hundred feet north or south you were gonna pull a blank or just deal with triggerfish. Our hottest spot for the troll is less than four hundred yards long and maybe two hundred yards wide. The guides overthere know their game. Can sit right on the rightcorner and within seconds tell you when that school is going to round the bend.
Mays a wonderful time there. Good warm weather. Fewer northerly fronts to screw the seas up... Look at the walls around town of great fish from years gon by. Almost all the Marlin and Giant Bluefins have stickers from May and June on em. Bonefish are at peak along with muttons in May. The stacks of hoos in the winter.

I agree with Olivia Grace, if you are specifically targeting marlin that is. Bimini is not the hot bed of marlin fishing, but has a good all around fishery. Mahi is good over there in May, but consistent tuna is a good run from the island. Yes, you may get a shot at a marlin but don't count on anything. Try to book a boat from the US if possible, that way the locals don't take you on a barracuda trip. Other than that the water is beautiful if any of your team are divers.

World class marlin? Its not... Good? It is... Two years agow we even double grand slammed between there and Cay one day plus two whites... Is that common? Hell no but it can happen if you WORK it instead of just driving around.
I agree about the local charter boats though if you read my original response. They are perfectly content to wire line up and down the edge for a mish mash of stuff. Cudas, kings, grouper, a stray wahoo and even a mutton now and then.
The trips I run cater to our groups wishes. If they want marlin specific we will work hard that way. If they want a mix we go that way. If they want the deep and long on the tuna or a sword drift or yellowtail hunt we oblige. Its my passengers who make the call. We get a lot who want to mix bonefishing in and we arrange for that too.
