You know.....I can see the justification of killing a Marlin for a tourney. But day in and day out, hanging these fish just to take a picture. I would think that these fish would be worth more alive than dead.
How many hundreds if not thousands, die each year with the charter fleets killing small blues such as these?
You would think that the mentality would support conservation of such a valuable resource rather than its systematic demise by an underage harvest as shown in this thread.
IMO opinion, its obvious that this operation certainly does not respect the resource. To bad, there will come a day when few of these creatures will cease to exist and pictures will be all you have.
What concerns me about this specific post is that it gets me wondering what the crew is telling their clueless tourist passengers.
Are they talking the passengers into mounting the marlin to get taxidermy commissions? If so, are they pressuring them further by killing the fish, and then guilting the charter clients into the mount?
These situations have been well documented around different charter docks in the US, most notably in South Florida at the Lauderdale & Miami charter docks where crews are being prosecuted for their illegal practices by killing sailfish non-stop.
I'm not accusing anyone, pointing any fingers, nor do I have any proof, but these photos bring up a LOT of questions in my mind.
701lb. Blue Marlin, Super Slam, 60 sail in a day, a sword during day on troll

Here are a couple of thoughts:
You guys still kill everything, ever hear of catch and release over there? This is not the stone age anymore, let them go.
I guess all the nice fish are in Kona.
If I brought one of those back to my dock, they would run me off. I would not be able to show my face any longer.
I think that is sad that you post something like that boastfully. You have no respect for our resources and you are not a credible source or ambasator for sportfishing.
