Big Rock Ladies Day - James Joyce wins!!

just stopping in quickly to add a report before I get back to work finishing up prep for next weeks Big Rock tourney



had 3 ladies aboard with us for the Big Rock Ladies Day event. Lines in at 8 and I was not too happy with my choice of locations. Moved around a bit and headed a bit deeper, still not happy with what I was seeing, so I decided to head back in just a bit. Finally saw a few flyers and made the comment about finally seeing some stuff and we may be onto something - then BAM!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooked up blue marlin at 9:16. Fish takes off on an 80 wide and puts on a fantastic show. We clean it all up and CL starts screaming about the line, I looked down and we are down to NOTHING on the spool. I started her hard astern and Joyce goes to work. We quickly got most of it back until it decides to go deep. This was the toughest fish Joyce has had to deal with and she did awesome - pumped that big ole girl right up to CL in 44 minutes. Bunch of yelling and pictures later we released a 550# blue marlin and took the lead.

got it all back out and moved around a bit, picked up a mahi or 2 but kinda slow overall. Just after 11 we found a nice looking area and worked it pretty hard. Just as I thought it was not gonna happen I saw a huge spray of water heading across the spread in close and then watched another big blue jump out and pounce onto the right side short rigger. This fish never jumped again, just swam straight away so I was able to back right down on top of him. After a short battle boat side CL had the leader on another 500# blue.

Got back thru the inlet and ran the flags up - then stopped in the turning basin to give the ladies a quick "victory lap" swim for their effort. I would love to have either of those fish Monday. End result for the day though was we won the Lady Day tourney this year!!!

once we get back I hear Capt Shane managed a 24# mahi to win the mahi prize. Certainly had us beat there by about 10#'s!! Congrats Shane!!!

ok, thats all I got for now and I gotta get back to finish up a few things to be ready for tomorrow. Looks like we are definitely going to fish Monday and Tuesday, then figure out the rest from there. Thanks for all the calls and emails of congrats - I relay them all to the team and we all really appreciate it!!!
