    BIG MAKOS!!!

If you guys want to see some wild mako shark fishing, check out Trev Gowdy's show MONSTER FISH on The Outdoor Channel this coming Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! This show was filmed off of Catalina Island and there were 3 makos hooked, fought, and released on this trip, 2 were estimated at 400 lbs. and one was estimated at 600 lbs.!

The guest host is Dennis Braid. It's my understanding that tackle, rigging, tips, and techniques for catching these beats these will also be discussed.

The scheduling at this point is as follows:

    Fri. 1/7 - 7:30 am and 10:30 pm

    Sat. 1/8 - 9:30 am

    Sun. 1/9 - 7:00 am

All times given are EST. Check your local listings just in case. It should be a good one!

    FISH HARD!

I love me some bluebacks my friend. mako's and swords light my hair on fire for sure. If Trev Goudy estimates a fish I'm pretty sure we can cut that estimate in half but we shall see right? Hows hunting been?

You remember Rob Rhorke that worked on the Royal Star? Him and Don, his father, invented and own the wind whacker decoy system. Heard of it?

The size estimates I got from Dennis, and I've seen a few of the stills taken from the raw video. I'll see if I can find them and post 'em up for ya'!

Thei is the first stretch of dry we've had in almost 3 weeks. Kern Canyon is still cl0osed by a rock slide and I found out that part of the road in to one of my favorite quail holes has washed out! A buddy of mine and I are already talkin' about using the quads to get in for a three day hunt at the end of the month though, so I ain't done yet! LOL!!!

I'll PM you his cell and y'all see what you can work out. He was my roomate when I was on the Shogun and I've taken him and his dad Don hunting and fishing several times since. I bet you at least get some free chit and I know he is looking for more exposure.

    Good deal Mike, and thanks!

In the meantime here are a few pics I had from the video. I thought I had one from up in the tower looking down to give a better size perspective, but I couldn't find it. Let me know if these don't come through.

There is one item I was told about that happened on the trip but I don't know if it's gonna be on the video or not. Apparently, one of the big ones barfed up most of a sea lion hide right at boatside, and you know how much the guys out here like the furbags!

There have been some HUGE makos seen and a few caught out here this year. Here's a couple of videos that were taken from a party boat out by Catlina! Pretty raw nature stuff right here!

We're also seeing an increase in the number of large whites........and their contact with humans!

This is another pic pulled from the raw footage, the one that I thought I'd lost. It was taken from the tower as they tagged this mako, and gives a pretty good idea of the size. You can also see part of one of the video cams as well.
