I don't believe it was a line problem. I had already ordered a new spool of Moimo's diamond from Stalkers Outfitter. I spoke to Lee and he claims he has had NO problems with the Diamond line.

I tie new Bimini's on every trip. Maybe I missed one or maybe it had to do with where I put my light. I have relocated my light to the windon with a crimp so it don't slide, instead of putting it on the double, maybe that will solve the problem we will find out next Fri. night.

    Capt. Rick,
Let us know how it goes.. The light sliding and swinging around on the double could have nicked the line. Good luck and catch a picture for us......Mark

We have spooled literally millions of yards of momoi diamond line and have never had any problems. There must have been some other issue there, I can't say what but I would find it hard to believe it was the Diamond line. Now if it was Suffix, I could point the blame.

It's funny, I personally have had exactly the opposite experience. The charter boat I worked on last year had some reels spooled with diamond. I (my opinion) thought it was garbage compared to sufix superior, which I use on my personal boat. I couldn't get any knot strenght out of it.

I will guarantee one thing, there is no way I would start a day fishing for G-BFT's without anything but fresh sufix superior on every reel. It has never let me down and in fact I owe several fish to that line.

I'm not trying to argue about it, just saying that my experience on the water has been different.

Though I would post up a pic.

By the way I checked my reel tape data and is was not Diamond it was Hi catch 50#. And after reviewing the break, I don't think the light clip had anything to do with it.

What is the advantage to using a double cp vs. a single cp?

I don't mean to hijack your thread RH.

I don't know what i'm talking about but, it seems strange to me that it appears there is only 2/3 of your loop left in your photo. Shouldn't the opposite side of the break have a little bend in it before the break to meet up with the other side correctly? Or is it possible that after the break, the dacron pulled some of the bend out of the U as the mono slid out from it under tension? If I am being over ANALytical just say so.

The double cp is what is recommended by Momoi's, I like because it guaranties your line won't roll over onto a girth hitch.

As far as the missing piece of mono goes, I really can't tell if a piece is missing, or like you say, just straightened out. It does appear one end is a little shorter than the other.

When tying your bimini what do you put your line loop on, cleat, reel handle, rod holder???...I put mine on the reel handle and in a couple cases (in a hurry looking somewhere else)it will slide between the handle and handle arm and can get knicked there...never broke one tho...and also i have watched a person wrap in a double line and break the fish off and it breaks in the same spot as yours did.....

General speaking I use my reel handle, but sometime if I am tying inside the house I will use the sink faucet Maybe we are on to something. I got 5 more rods ready to go, I will check all of them tomorrow.
