I believe you, I am not sure how deep the elephant trunk lies
but I did have a few big eyes on and a little inside the 40 line inside of the hudson back in the early 80's,

I've seen 2 Big Eyes come from the Glory Hole . Fish will follow the bait. There has been an unusual amount of big squid inshore this year, on my bluefish trips they swarm the boat some of the pods are 12 inches long. Maybe that's why the canyons are dead because so much food is inshore.
