We arrived at the Washington at 6:00am. it was still dark and we struggled to see the balls, set the baits and avoid the weed in the less then perfect conditions. But we knew they were there. You could just feel the excitement in the cockpit. It was going to happen any minute. HOLY $HIT. What is that - The temperature alarm went off on starboard motor. We may have to quit before we started. I quickly jumped in the hole and figured out the problem ( a first for me in the mechanical realm). The temp went back down and it was back to looking for the right signs. My brother was up in the tower of the Incommunicado looking. So many times we say lets get a big eye today knowing that it is really just a dream wish. But that was our sole goal today. Bob starts pounding the floor of the tower with his feet. "TWO O'CLOCK NOW. I turned the wheel and POW goes right long rigger. OFTEN ERNIE - grabs the right short and start jigging. BAM goes the right flat RASTA BAR. Ernie yells that he is now tight and BAM goes the left flat. I get on the radio and call to dropback Karl on the Espadon. 1 on 2 ON, 3 ON , COVERED UP RIGHT HERE NOW. I look back and their are BIG EYES CRASHING THE LAST RASTA BAR in the spread, BAM, miss, WACK,miss, Boom MISS a third time, Now JR's fish is getting stretched out and its time to shut down and work the four we got on. Espadon pulls up and quickly shuts down he has two pigs hooked up just as quickly. Ernie's fish is getting close after twentyt minutes and the intensity is starting to reach fever pitch. I would have bet my last $ that ernie was going to snap his rod like a toothpick. The pressure he was putting on sent me into the jitterland too many times. But the man worked that fish like a champ. within 30 minutes the fish was at the boat. Corey placed his rod in the holder and quicky sunk the steel, I followed with a second shot and the first BIG EYE hit the deck of the Incommunicado 150lb plus. Bob was next with his fish 20 minutes later. All the stress was off now since we got one in the boat and you rarely get them all. DO YOU? Bob's fish had more weed on the line then a cheech and chong movie. Ernie cleared the weed at the wind-on leader and sunk the steel. I again played clean up with the second gaff. Two in the boat and blood everywhere. But we didn't have much time becuase Corey was gaining quickly. I tied the two fish to the stringer cleats and got ready to help ernie with Corey's fish. This one was going to be a doozie becuase ernie had a 1lb weight and 35 feet of leader AND a 170lb slob tugging at the other end. He leadered that fish like a master and Bob sunk the first gaff and I followed with the second. number three in the boat and now the dream of catching one BIG EYE has turned into the fantasy come true of possibly getting the whole pack in the boat. This last fish was on the 11 ich rasta bar and stretch out over 1/2 of 50wide. The odds were not in our favor. JR played the fish like a champ. We could see the bar pop up but could not reach it. The first hour of fight had come and gone but he kept up the struggle with no signs of giving up. Finally after what seemed like forever with the fish within 20 feet. The fish made a surge forward. Ernie Leadered, Corey sunk the gaff, and Bob played clean up with the second gaff. 4 BIG EYES IN THE BOAT THROWING BLOOD, SQUIDS and even fire extinquishers everywhere. One fish got so violent that he literally almost jumped out of the boat. We got all the fish settled and lines back in and sat their and stared at eachother asking ourselves if this really just happened. The lines only stayed in the water for another hour. We pick em up and headed for the barn at 9:13 am. DREAM COME TRUE - Pictures to follow. Espadon landed their two fish going 180 and 160. Ours went 168, 164, 150 and 135.
