The big Blues are feeding on a slightly out-of-season run of 10-20kg Yellowfin Tuna here in the Pemba Channel, Kenya. There are the odd packs that are mixed in with huge pods of Common Dolphin/& Spinner Dolphin all feeding on the sashimi!
Unfortunately a couple of Blues died - the 1st a fish something over 450lbs on 50 lb line. It jumped like crazy all over the ocean for 15 minutes then dived really deep. All that energy lost and then it died. The crew trid to 'plane' it up and reverse back on it when it got near the surface but it proved too heavy and the line parted. The 2nd fish also on 50 lb fought really well for 45 mins and then it too was exhausted and it died at the boat and was later weighed in - 365 lbs. Not a good day for the fish but the anglers had a work-out! www.pembachannel.com
