Big Blue Kicks My Butt

Well, had a good fathers day on Sunday. Just Doug and I headed out to the break at the 270 (65 - 70 fathoms). 2 short bites right off the bat and Doug was pissed. Dragged the baits for another 1/2 hour and then all hell breaks loose. Left long gets bit, and then for the next minute lines keep poppin one by one. When the dust settled 6 came tight, and 2 didnt. Again, just Doug and myself, so we start to bring um in. Ended with 4 of the 6 fish. All 40 to 55 lbs. Pulled baits for another couple hours and then the fun started. Big blue marlin piles on the left long and comes tight. Had him on for a couple minutes before he chafes through the leader. Doug and I think this is pretty cool, and he proceeds to get the spread straight. While he is standing next to the right flat guess who comes back? Hits it, and Doug swears the rod tip almost hit the water. Well the fish blows through that leader and is gone again. Pretty cool, but wait. Fish comes back a 3rd time and piles on the electric blue Squidnation bar, and comes out of the water. Now we are really excited. We are just a couple half ass tuna fisherman, but this fish was big. Double the size of the 300lbr we released last year. Leader on the bar parts shortly there after and the fish was last seen heading south with a bunch of squids bounching off his head.
