    BFT Trolling Tips? (NJ/MD/VA)

This past season we had a really hard time with the BFT's. Right area, right rigging, just no luck.

Anyway, let's use as a thread to share some info.

This past summer we were running 5 lines. 1 flat, 1 downrigger, 2 riggers, 1 shotgun.

We had them staggered. Moderately WWB.

Blue/White Islander, Pink/White, Crystal, and Red/White with selects.

    We trolled at 4.5 kts.

    Let's here those tips!

We didn't have any luck on the troll either. Every fish that I saw hooked was just off of the bottom in about 280-320 feet of water.

We didn't have any luck on bait either...

One run off on bait which pulled the line out of my buddies hands as he was letting it out.

The bite seemed to be a little north of where it was last year. The Atlantic Princess and just east of there to the Glory hole seemed to be the ticket. We had a few fish but didn't put too much time in that area. We stopped on our way to and from the canyons. We got them on Jigs and sardines. Nothing on the troll.

Oh i was farther south man. I watched 200# fish come over the gunnels all around me. Just not my boat. We saw a boat fight a fish for 3 hours on a 50w not more than a 1/4 mile from us the entire time. They saw the fish twice and estimated it at 300

Claw and inshore of the claw. It was the most frustrating season of my life.

That sure sucks when it rolls like that. Been there done that.... it was like that with the Big eye bite last year. Doing the same thing as the boats that were hooked up all around us.

    Not sure anymore

    We hit em good

in the VBBT. Got our over and under. Had several bites on the longs and the over hit the planer. We used 130lb Floro wind on leaders with Ilanders on the longs WFFFB and a pink witch on the planer. Only rods that got sniffed. I have had great luck on a pink/charteuese witch on the short in recent years for unders but not this year.

I should prob switch to fluoro on my trolling setups. Maybe that's the problem.
