Just wondering how or if the market flexes with the reduced amount of bft being caught at the present time. also does the price flex if there is an abundace of tuna caught and available for market.

We (the US) represent a very small amount of fish that ends up in Tokyo at this time of year, most fish at their auction now are coming from farm raised operations and a few wild caught Japanese fish. Supply and demand, and the quality of each fish dictate pricing. Just yesterday, six wild caught Japanese fish were on auction, 2 sold, 1 for the equilvalent of $180/lb the other about $77/lb. Thats alot of $$. US caught fish that do get shipped over never bring that kind of $.![]()
Heard one boat got around $25.00 a lb last week for a nice fish that was shipped. It certainly can very but generally I would say between $12-$20 a lb for fish shipped to Japan and possibly a little lower for those sold domestically. I think right now we will know more after the New Years what the price will be for the fish caught the last few days.
