BFT 8 Dec MHC

Had the baits in the water at 0615 at the sea buoy. Same deal as yesterday; two 130 outfits spooled w/80 and 20' wind-on leaders with horse hoos, one on top blu/w and one down pnk/w. Started trolling just east of the fleet on a W-SW course staying just a tit south of the gaggle of boats. Couldn't find cool water to save our lives. Kept marking 62.5 down to 59 and not a tenth cooler. After an hour or so, it became clear via channel 18 that it was going to be a long slow day. Temp or structure? Temp or structure? Made the decision to go after temp so we kept heading west to the Hutton. Crisscrossed all over/around it for about an hour. Temp or structure? Temp or structure? Pulled baits and ran 15 miles to the E to fish the NW places (structure). About .5 miles from the waypoint, it felt like someone opened up the oven door. Friggen water was 69 - 72.5. About that time, heard some chit chat that a couple of boats had found cooler water around the trawler buoy. Pulled baits again and steamed further east to the #8 buoy. Sure enough, 56.4. Baits back in. Scattered schools of little tuneys all around and a strong smell of menhaden. Started marking bait pods here and there... mostly there. Trolled all the way to the shad wreck and back.

Bottom line - el skunko!! Pulled chocks at 1100 and headed in. In the 5 hours we fished only heard (ch18) of one hook up and that being a short one.

For all you guys/gals who wanted to but couldn't...... YOU DIDN'T MISS A DAMN THING.
Did anyone do anything today out of MHC??

Should've headed east to the Atlas Tanker and king fished.

I heard of 1 kill and very few shorts. It was tough out there, your story sounds like ours. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
