White marlin bite in Venezuela should be in full swing by then--that's where I'd go...enough blues and sails around to have a fair shot at a slammo...

    Good luck!

Really only two choices for places to stay--Mango Marina or Marina Portofino. Good news is that both offer nice clean rooms, swimming pool, a full-service restaurant with great food/drinks and the best part, the boats are right out front. Wake up, eat a quick breakfast and hop on board.

For boats, you have a couple choices there. You can book an American captain on a great boat for a bit more or you can go the budget route and book a local skipper on a, well, not-so-great boat that still catches fish. For American skippers it's hard to beat Jimmy Grant on the Waterman, Bubba Carter on the Southpaw or Hans Kraaz on the Vintage (although they may be in St. Thomas right now). All three are at Mango Marina. I believe the Bud Man and Tropic King are also available for charter as well.

For local boats check out Guarimba or Joropo, both are usually in the money in the local tournaments down there and both can put you on the fish as well. You can search any of these options on the web or get in touch with a travel agency that specializes in fishing trips to help you book the whole deal (flights, transfers, boats, etc).

Hope this helps--good luck on the hunt!

Hi to you all. I run a Hatteras 55' at La Guaira-Venezuela, full rigged for sportfishing tournaments . We are only 5 minutes away from the Int'l Airport at the Best Western Playa Grande Caribe Hotel and Marina. October is a great time come and fish the famous La Guaira Bank.I will be glad to answer any question about fishing Venezuela.Regards. Capt. Henry Atencio

While Venezuela is a great place for Billfish in October you might also want to check out Cabo San Lucas, Mexico ,plenty of Blues,Blacks and Stripes around in the fall there. Also you'll be able to enjoy a little nightlife there as well.Google Picses ,or Minerva's for charters or Solmar resorts for packages.Good Luck.
