I am planning a short vacation over New Years with another couple and would like to do some fishing. I need a destination where the ladies can be entertained (shopping, beach, etc), while we fish.
Please give me any of your experiences with fishing vacations. ![]() |

If its fishing and shopping the I would head to Miami. Great fishing that time of year for sails and more recently swords.
Keys are also a good idea. Islamorada, Marathon and Key West are my favorites. |

any idea what you want to target???
Costa Rica was a blast and relatively easy to get to. Lots of local markets and shopping destinations as well as beautiful beaches in Jaco which is a mere 10min from Los Suenos. Sail fishing there is good in Jan. Its also different. Had a great time there and the GF was never bored, even while i was fishing. |

I'm willing to fish for about anything, but prefer lots of large creatures. I have briefly looked into Cabo San Lucas, but airfare is EXPENSIVE! I also like to idea of Costa Rica, but the other couple went there last year. I honestly had not thought about FL.
Any other suggestions are appreciated, and then we can get into details! |

While I am sure we will have a blast in Brazil - It is not a destination for just a couple of days. Its a long trip down and fishing is the primary reason for the trip unless you are planning on fishing out of Rio. Rio is OK fishing and the rest everybody else knows that it is the biggest party city in the world. Nevertheless raymond - i am stoked and ready.

AA,
I agree with you on Brazil. I would love to go for the monster marlin and maybe a few other things , but time is a factor. We're looking for short and sweet 3 night trip. When are you headed for Brazil? Let's expand on the Florida/Keys vacations! |

I have fished in Miami, Islamorada, Marathon (hawks Cay) and Key West. In Miami I fished with Miss Britt. You can find them in the back of all the magazines. Capt Ray is a legend in Miami. Chances are you will not actually fish with him but with his trusty captain Alex. These guys are the ultimate as far a professionalism. I would reccomend them highly. The sword bite has been pretty consistant and they almost always find the sails. He does a combo trip with an afternoon for sails and and evening of swords. Don't drink at the bar at the Marina though. You may have to sell your catch to pay the bar tab. Probably the most overpriced bar in Coconut Grove. We stay in Miami which is about 20 minutes from the boat. I like to stay at the Lowes. Great beach front hotel. Also the pool bar has the absolutely best bloody marys in the world.
In Islamorada I stay in Ocean Pointe in Tavanier. Awesome complex. For 15 yrs I fished with capt. Jack Falcucci on various boats. Jack is a master at finding the right bait. The right bait is the key to florida fishing. All three of the guys I would reccommend go the extra mile to find the right bait. It may take a little longer but it usually pays off in the end. If you go to Islamorado I would reccommend a stop at Craigs for dinner. I also like Morada Bay right next to World Wide angler. Lorelie is a great happy hour. And it can always get pretty scenic at Holiday Isle. In Marathon I fished with Capt Scott walker on the tail walker out of Hawks Cay. Another ultra professional captain who knows how to find the bait and works tirelessly to find the fish and usually outfishes everyone. If you go to Marathon you've got to eat at Annettes and Barracudas. I have not fished key west much but the times I did we managed some nice sails and groupers. I would ask the board for some reccomendations on a good charter. As far as eats go you have got to try Pepe's. Pepe's is my favorite resturant in all of Florida. The oyesters are awesome and their fresh squeezed screw drivers are the best. The fishing is almost secondary to all the other attactions. Frankly I would probably fish a little further north and then take a day or two to party in Key West. Hope this helps and tell us how you do wherever you go. |
