The first year I went to Cancun (which is the same fishing as Isla) we did not get there until March and we averaged 10 to 20 shots a day, with our best 4 day stretch being 79 sails and 2 whites caught. The winter fishery has been consitently better than that in the past few years, but March can be good.
I have been to Los Suenos twice in March and had good fishing both times.

Lance:
As the majority indicates, here in Costa Rica would be one of your best options to have a very successful fishing vacation in March. The Los Suenos region is by far the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica and we are in Peak season from now through April. The Hooked On Costa Rica boats are catching impressive numbers of Sailfish, as well as Giant Mahi's, Yellowfin Tuna and a few Marlin.
As far as accessability, Los Suenos is the most accessable Marina in the country and happens to be where the best year round fishing is. It is just under 2 hours by nicely paved roads to Los Suenos Jaco. Something else to consider as well, not only is the fishing here superior, but there is more to see and do here than any other Costa Rica destination.
You'll have 100's of restaurants to choose from, the best nightlife, casinos, major shopping, 4 Major Grocery stores, internet access, and a wide variety of tours such as Zip-Line Canopy , ATV's , White Water Rafting, Wildlife Tours, Crocodile tours and much more.
For the best overall Costa Rica expereince, planning a trip to the Los Suenos regon is by far the best choice. Please know that we have been in the Sport Fishing & Hospitality business for over 20 years. We are seasoned fisherman and captains that know the in's and out's of this industry. We could have set up shop anywhere in Costa Rica. We chose the Los Suenos region first because of the superior fishing, and secondly because of it's ease of access and the wide variety of things to do here.
My company offers 15 of the top producing and most proffesionaly crewed boats out of Los Suenos. We also offer the best Multi-Inclusive packages to this region that include fishing, accomodations, airport and ground transportation, tours and complete service.
If you are looking for the perfect Costa Rica fishing and travel expreince, do yourself a favor and contact us. Unlike the countless "booking agencies" found all over the internet, we dont put you on just any boat in any accomodation. We know who fishes hard here, and who runs the best trips. Those are the boats that have earned the right to carry Hooked On Costa Rica's guests.
The accomodations included in our packages are luxurious with ocean and mountain views. We live here and escort every group from start to finish. While here, you have your own personal guide, concierge', safety officer, and translator.
We do have some availabilty in March for the dates you are looking for if you contact us soon. Like many other members of several online forums have discovered, our boats and services are superior and complete. Please feel free to email me any time for more information. If you include a phone number in your email I will call you directly and help you get started in planning the perfedt trip here.
Hope to hear from you soon:

I believe the only time the striped marlin are not biting is when the black and the blue marlin are biting! If you are on a budget, I recommend Red Rum Fishing Charters. Make sure you stay IN Cabo San Lucas and not Los Cabos. It will be much more convenient and you will have more fun. You will find accomodations from as cheap as $65/night on up.
March and April are pretty good for Blue Marlin and Sailfish in Port-Gentil Gabon... but it is not as accessible as all the other popular destinations... but definately of the beaten path.
Ixtapa, Mx is always good and pretty cheap.
How about Barbados in March or April?
Anyone know how the fishing is in Barbados during month of March or April?
Will be there for 6 days either late march or early april and looking to do some marlin fishing.
Not sure about marlin, but thye have some pretty good wahoo fishing!
