BEST BAIT TO PULL ON PLANER ROD?

OK GUYS. I'M GOING TO ADD A PLANER ROD TO MY SPREAD THIS YEAR. I NEED YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MOST PRODUCTIVE BAIT TO PULL BEHIND THE PLANER. WILL BE FISHING OUT OF OREGON INLET, TROLLING AROUND SIX KNOTS. TARGETING YELLOWFIN TUNA. I HAVE ALREADY PUT TOGETHER A DFA ROD WITH THE BRIDLE FOR THE PLANER. REST OF THE SPREAD WILL INCLUDE BALLYHOO WITH SEAWITCHS OR JR ISLANDERS. AND BIRD AND BAIT WAY WAY BACK. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Ilander (trimmed down to keep the hook point from wrapping up in hair), jr ilander or the upright troller lures have worked the best for me so far. Used to like the darker colors but will do some experimenting this season with brighter colors.

Like dark colors deep, blk/orange sea witch is my standard fare at planer speeds (8 knots). I am wahoo pulling or mahi (we get very little YF around here). Big lipped lures can be used on planers as well, and work well!

For school or large school bluefin this would be my choice, the drone spoon or the clark spoon. It's amazing how many boats do not use them on tuna! I must admit I haven't put them out much for yellows or longs but need to try it.

I shove a 6oz. egg sinker in a 12" P-line squid skirt & rig it with 2 hooks & cable. Color: Purple/silver/black. The squid skirts cost like $2 @ Bass Pro. Saves you some $$, b/c 'Ol Scissor Lips will abuse anything you put down there.

for yft off virginia and obx very light haired sw with p/w light 4 strips crystal mylar, chrome drone (my tow favorites) or a b/w r/w seawitck or p/w mylar witch. do this with the bridal rig and at least 75' 100-130# leader medium ballyhoo and i like a smaller #8 high speed planner and let the line creep out slowly. i finally got a good planner rod, but this worked on a 6/0 senator with 80# powerpro for three years.
