Well, me and Captain Brian The BEAST Harrington teamed up on the O-SEA-D yesterday.
Flat slick calm all the way out. So smooth you could see the reflection of the Knuckle buoy light on the water.
We arrived at the fishing spot of choice, take off the big side curtains, put the riggers out and start fishing. We fished 7 lines all day long
First fish hit the deck about 7:00 am and the wind started kicking. By 10:00 it was 15-20. By noon and for rest of the day it was at least 20kts and seas were building. We had 3 blackfins in the boat by 10:00. Picked up a Wahoo around 11:00 on the Left Short. Then picked up another Blackfin around noon.
BEAST said, lets move in a little closer and head up the beach, it will make the ride home a little better. I said "Aye Aye Captain. So, in and up we went for about an hour or so. Not marking much of anything along the way, and the temperature cooled down about a half a degree, then we started marking a thermocline down in the water column about 150 ft deep.....
Then.....
BAMM, the Squidnation Au Natural teaser jumps out of the water as the Tuna's have their way with it. Then the Right flat started screaming.....Then the Left flat line....then the Right Short goes off and then Right long goes off. Both flats and the short stayed on and drags were sreaming. THE BEAST has rod in hand and is cranking, meanwhile I am trying to keep the boat straight in the 3-6' chop and keep the other lines tight while clearing the other stuff. Up comes 1 Yellow belly and in the boat. On to number 2, THE BEAST is cranking away scraming "JOHN, YOU WANT SOME OF THIS? COME FEEL THIS ARM OF MINE....ITS ALLLLL MUSCLE BABY....ITS A PYTHON BABY!!""I crack the wip on THE BEAST and say, keep that rod tip high Captain LOL
Yeah Right, like I have to worry about that when I am fishing with THE BEAST.
He got that name for a reason. I start working on number 3 while he is still on number 2.
His fish is about 50 feet out on the surface and THE BEAST says, " hey, something is after that fish" I looked and sure enough, there are a few more Yellow bellys swimming with the hooked fish.
What do you think THE BEAST does? He gets the other short rigger and starts free spooling it back trying to get us another hook up....keep in mind here he is still fighting his fish.
By now we are facing down sea as directed by THE BEAST. Still fighting fish 2 and 3. Mine comes up, slip the gaff in him and in the boat he comes, 2 down. THE BEAST cranks his fish up a few minutes later and in the boat comes number 3.
BLOODBATH, maybe not the bloodbath we wanted but 3 Yellow bellys in the back of the O-SEA-D and things got a little bloody. LOLThere was blood on the front curtains, blood on all the electronics, blood on the Maui Jims, blood on us from top to bottom. It was awesome.

We set the stuff back out and made a few more passes but no more bites. Fished another hour after that and headed for the hill.
Ended up the day with 4 Blackfins (2 about 25lbs), 3 Yellowfins (all 30-40lbs) and a Weehoo. Had a few other bites and pulled the hook on a few fish while they were on their initial run.
To end the day...we get into the no wake sone and there is a Grady White center console sitting there. Everything looks fine as we are driving past and all the sudden we see on the Port side there is a dude with his ass hanging over the gunnell, taking a DUMP!!!What the heck? Personally I would have picked a better spot then out in the open in front of everybody passing by.
Overall, it was a great day considering how slow the fishing was. Fishing with THE BEAST on O-SEA-D was an honor. He taught me so much about running the boat. Which ways to troll, things to look for, things to do and not do and so on. I had a freaking blast today. It was a blessing to be out in the blue water again. We were laughing so hard on the way in, BSing back and forth that I gave myself a headache. LMAO![]()
