Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational Coverage Day 3
Sorry for the delay folks, had some technical difficulties today, but here's the blow by blow from today:
When the scales opened up, two boats were already lined up to go. nobody payed attention to the first which weighed a small yft, as Marlin Hunter was waiting for their turn with a qualifying white on deck. This was the first white in the tournament, and weighed in at 82 pounds. The angler was Fritz "Skippy" Butler and Kurt VonSeekamn was running the boat. After taking a close look and making some measurements it was also determined to be a hatchet marlin rather than a true white.

Some more photos, lots of celebration. The Hatchet Marlin ID was interesting, and I'll share what I learned in another thread.

The next up to mess with the scoreboard was the MJ's.
Some serious squalls hit offshore around midday with some boats reporting 50-60 knot gusts and steep 6-8 foot seas that came up quick and hard. The MJ's hooked up just moments before the squall hit and spent almost and hour fighting not the fish, but the storm. They said they were just able to maintain the hook-up while keeping the boat into the seas, but not able to work the fish at all until the squall passed. The big allison came in at 129.1 pounds, smoking the current leader.

That let the Marlin Hunter and MJ's crews free to officially celebrate taking the wins on last day surges.
Marlin Hunter won the White Category, and MJ's the tuna category Endless Drifter, Fish Trap and Milling Around had the top three tuna totals of six fish in two days fishing. Mack Attack served as the release champions, leading the Nutz 'N Boltz and The Shark in blue releases points and time They also topped the Crisdel and Hang Tough in the white marlin release category and landed the Grand Championship Trophy. Congrats to all who fished and those who won, I'll have awards photos, calcutta winners, and full wrap-up tomorrow for you all so check back. I also can't say enough about the Beach Haven Marlin Club, their members and staff and all the hard work they put into this. I can't thank them enough for all the hospitality, the access, and offering to help me with anything I needed. It was top-notch as I've come to expect from this great event.
