Chunking season started on Kodi's Options this past Weds night. Joe and I headed out on Weds day to the Baltimore around 11am. Running 2 hours through 1-2 foot seas with no wind we reached the 40 line and opened up a troll. Huge pods of porpoises in the flat, we chased, but no knock downs. With not a fish in the box after4 hours of trolling we set up a drift on the North wall for Tile Fish. After 5 drifts and 15 tiles. 4 Golden, 11 grey, (largest Golden 50lbs), we decided to find a lonely ball and tie up for the night. After 4 hours of chunking with slight wind vs. tide and lines running under the boat we broke off and drifted south through the canyon. One run off with some small bait marks and no live squid until about 3 am. After drifting throught the canyon and onto the flat on the South flat we began picking up some huge baits balls. Porpoises jumping around the boat, a small mako hooked swimming around (we hooked him to get rid of him, and hundreds of chicken mahi coming in and out of our lights. We finally sabiki'd some live squid, and the night changed. Put them all down about 100 ft and (5 rods) they all went off at once. Lost 3 during the fight and brought in two nice 60lb yf. One more run off at first light and we decided to troll back to the 40 line and head for the barn. On the 40 line we got a nice going away gift with our final run off, long port rigger broke loose, nose weighted mullet, brought in a 50lb wahoo to end our trip.
