BALTIMORE 6/16
Throwing a dart on Saturday, I decided to head towards the Arlene to troll. Because of crew issues we didn’t leave the dock until 6:30am and with just 3 of us (including my 12 yr old son), headed out. Arrived at the Arlene to be greeted with 63-64 degree water but very clear and a monster shark (easily 16-17 feet long) cruising the surface. Most likely a white shark. Heard of a bite out at the Baltimore, picked up and ran to the deep of the Balt (tip was 65 degrees). Lines back in the water by 10:45am and we had a 60lb yellowfin (blue/crystal sea witch / ballyhoo) on by 11:30am. My 12 yr old made "fairly" short work of him and with lines back in the water quickly, a 44 inch bluefin hits a purple/black tracker / ballyhoo. 2 fish in the box. Water temperature was 73-74 with 77 being the highest we saw. One other mystery bite (white?) and a fish that smoked a 30 but then bit through the leader (shark or wahoo). God forbid they hit the planer with wire leader!! Headed for home at 2pm after the bite seemed to shut down with a lot of boats working the area. I know a friend stayed later and picked up his third fish after a lot of the boats headed for home. I heard of few others with 6+ fish.
Beautiful day – flat with a few rollers. Good 1st trip to “knock the dust off”.
