That's one of the reasons I can't stand those "ballyhoo hooks"

The barb is shallow and poorly designed. I've heard of many thrown hooks as a results. Tuna LOVE to straighten them on the first run. And they rust to dust in no time flat.

    Love my 7691DT's.

I like the 7732 over the 7691 because the hook point is parallel to the shank. the 7691 has a little curve to it closing the gap between the meat and the point.

I use the Mustad 3407SSD hook for the Ballyhoo Pin Rigs I make and sell. This is a very strong hook. It's called extra strong by Mustad.

I always used the 7691's in a 8/0 or 9/0 depending on the size of my ballys, either the selects or horse. I started using a few Owner Jobu Big Game(8/0 and 9/0) last year and had no problems at all. Out of the box the point on the Owners is deadly, but it can be difficult to sharpen.

    7731s

single crimped so the hook will be farther forward in the fish. This is about where I like them to come out. They just swim so much better...

I would say yes when you have a knock down and reel in half eaten bait...bit just behind the hook.

In the mid atlantic i prefer the 7691 zsteel holds a nice point and so far no failures after the first season it is touted to holdup better than stainless by the maker.
