Looks like this didn't post for some reason. Since bonefish have already been brought up, here's a look. They make for indestructible, all-day, primo blue marlin baits. Some years ago Joe Judge on Irish Rover won back-to-back Bahamas Billfish Championships using this bait.
We quit using ballyhoo this year. Screw the circle hooks and all the time it takes rigging. We drag four mops two teasers and a dredge. No hooks just mops. As soon as the billfish pops up and takes a swat at our mops he is el lassooooed! Keep the drag to the pin and crank as hard as you can as the boat moves at mach one backerds. Whitey here whitey there release one two three four! Bamolamo!
a Destin old timer long ago showed me a piece of blue nylon canvas strap ... by the end of the two day offshore trip we had three hookless fish and a bill tip.... that is a witch to get off the fish also though... twist pin it up and it sure defines having them by the point'y end...
PS: No Bonefish allowed above the Charestown line... something about no warm clear water and yankees'....
This has turned into an awesome thread, Thanks everyone!
Hey Woim,
Okay, I'll see what I can do. If they're big enough, maybe Whitey'll leave 'em alone and only the big blue girl will gobble them. Of course, if the big canyon 'hoos are around, you're on your own!
