I honestly can't say for sure. I just don't have enough water time to say definitively.

I'm sure it hasn't hurt. There have been days where we have caught, that others near us haven't and days where we caught less.

It could simply be the right place at the right time - Hopefully will get enough time this year to make some conclusions...

I'm a firm believer in watching bait and fish in their element to learn from them... That to me is a great help in eliciting a "feeding" type bite... Stimulating an anger bite is a whole different thing all together... That is achieved at least for me by the noise produced by the various head shapes of the lures there out on the market...

Not to point out the obvious...

I see a load of guys talk about how great they make their ballyhoos "Swim"... How the get them to swim like a snake. Take a look again. You see that? They swim almost straight as a board... Something to think about next time you want to have a "natural" looking spread...

Deepy, something for you to think about... Go ahead...Look close... Tell me what you notice... Still haven't got it?
Your 9" hoos are crammed in a 30" livewell. They don't have the opportunity to "swim" anywhere except up the ass of the ballyhoo in front of it. Put a pissed-off sail behind them in open water on the reef and I can guarantee you they will swim their collective asses off to get out of dodge.

I now completely understand why you have the results you do with your dead bait trolling, particularly with white marlin fishing. If you honestly think your dead baits shouldn't be "swimming", you seriously need to go buy a set of golf clubs.

Nice try but you're not gonna screw this tread up... The only thing you screwed up is the farce that somehow you know something about fishing at all. That statement now shows your true ignorance cause they sit the same way in the natural... I've been looking at em for thirthy five years. When they flee from a sail yeah they hop and skip. You see where that one tail is bent? Thats the pivot point the fish stil stays stiff except that last quarter...

Clt verified this in his swims with them,. Now if you truly had the slightest experience actually fishing you would know that. Your true colors just showed though on that... So whos the dumb ass now? Want to tell the boys at the Bacardi Tournament just how bad my dead baits suck?

    Ps... Shes a 60" well

    Deep,
I enjoy reading your posts and agree with you on a lot of stuff, but if what your saying is you don't break the backs of your ballyhoos, seperate the cartlidge, and break the tail to make them swim. I am going to have to disagree with you.

I do bust the backs but go short on the heavy duty limbering of them... I brine the dog shit out of my baits and stiffen em up to retard the snaking motion some... When the run, they look like the ones I get to watch in the wild

Ummm, that would still be you. Nothing's changed in the last 10 minutes.

I'd really prefer for you to continue fishing your dead ballyhoo just as you do. Your reports keep me well entertained with your 1001 reason for hardship on each trip. I have to hand it to you... you are very consistent with that.

Ok, but if they are stiff don't they just pull on their sides?

I can't speak for Deep, but I definitely break the back and separate the meat off the backbone.

Next time you are in an area with lots of ballyhoo - I happened to be snorkeling in St Thomas the first time I saw a school of ballyhoo being chased. I was very surprised - even when being chased, they swam from the rear 1/3 of their body.

Nope... Counterbalanced with a weight tucked in either under their gill or sometimes I use a "wedged" weight under and kind of wraped up around the bill.
That bait is a little complicate and with the circles in play now I seldom use it any more. My circle rig goes with the hook up top high (tacked to the forehead) and the weight in the gills...
