I also admit that I have had a great deal of fun and success over the years with the very small Yozuri flying fish. It was very normal for the crew to have to tie up the clients and throw them down below before we could leave a bite when using those things. They're an absolute hoot, especially without hooks in. Unfortunately, I do not know if you can get them any more ?

One lure doesnt do it. After the fish see the same lure three or four times, they lose interest. constantly switching lures will be the most productive thing. Dolphin will eat anything- especially if its something new and there is competition for that food. Try and switch lures so that they are very diverse.... I will throw a bucktail, then a storm, then a topwater popper, then a swimbait.... all in different colors. You will notice that most of your fish are gonna hook up on the first cast of a new bait, then with each successive cast, there will be less and less interest. After about four throws of one bait, they probably wont even follow the same bait anymore. Just each time you catch a fish or every third or fourth cast switch it up and they will never lose interest.
There will be some occasions when Capt Jakeg's variety point will be much in evidence, but I just want to say that in the instance of the photo above, I know the client on board that boat had no casting lures and that small Unicorn caught every one of the fish in that bag, and a host more.
A fact probably much more down to the mood of the fish, their appetite, a savvy angler and maybe a disorientated moonphase than due to the startling quality of the lure, of course...
But worth noting too........

under pots, behind the boat, trolling, i love BALLYHOO!!!
i keep the years left overs that went un touched.. chunk on up and toss like 4-5 out when back into a pot or along side of it and watch em eat!! they love it!! and if the small ones are around so is a big bull so i usually throw out a whole bally for them also! they love them on the troll and even better when they are just slowly drifting under the water towards their mouth!!
Dolphin for the most part are opportunistic feeders...They will eat any type of bait that moves...I've had them so lite up behind the boat, I've caught them on bare hooks and I even have free gaffed them...I like to catch em up on the troll...Then we leave the hooked fish in the water and start chunking cut up ballyhoo, pilchards or squid...8 times out of 10 the others within the school will stay behind the hook fish and around the boat...Also, I like to spray water from hose on the surface...This seems to really get them excited.
