    All good stuff.

Roddy's little Unicorn is a great mahi lure, as are other small lures. The mahis worldwide seem to really go for little baits. Inspect or pump out their stomach contents and you'll see why.

Capt Jakeg's advice is usually spot-on. Constantly changing lures is normally very good advice.

Sportfishusa's advice on the chunks (the smaller the better, usually) and putting out a whole bally is also good advice. In my case I also carried some killies back east or little sardinas in Mex that could be pure magic when the fish got picky...they have a hard time ignoring those little livies.

I also like Ace's approach, expecially for open water mahi (often found in areas with floaters, but between or outside of them). Countless times we raised schools on the little teaser bars that we trolled virtually all of the time. Mahi, being very competitive fish, really came on those teasers hard. Then, once raised, we'd chunk them and target the big bulls. There are very restrictive limits on mahi in Mexico (which may be one of the reasons why there are still plenty of big fish there), so we didn't really bail them there, instead doing that picking out of the big ones thing.

Another good thing about teaser bars is that if there are any tuna around, they will be all over them like the proverbial cheap suit...wahoo and yes, marlin too. For a good example of that marlin thing, see my recent "BIG marlin, little bait" post.

    Good inputs all. Thank you.

Here's that striped marlin caught earlier this week on a Little DaisyBar. That bar has 4 1/4" squid teasers and the same size, but a different color chasebait. And here's the little bar...feather light, easy trolling on any kind of gear, guaranteed not to break.

All great info. Thanks for the suggestions. I am looking to add lures to my arsenal for casting to dolphin. Im trying to find that "go to" lure that will work and I know that the lures need to be rotated as I have experienced the hot to cold transition on bailers before!

    Thanks again,
    Kevin

I like the YoZuri Hydro Pencil in silver/blue back. It produced on every trip this year. Also it seemed to get the bigger fish of the pod interested when squid/ballyhoo didn't. Holds up pretty well, too. I've had a bunch of fish on it an dfinish is worn, but structurally fine.
