Back Yard Sucking...

Snake bit? Skilless? Bad luck? I dunno... We have a series of tournies in my back yard and to date I have never even had a qualifier in that series. They run a sailfish, swordfish and KDW event and not once have I been competitive. I have won other local sail and KDW events. Sword, theirs is the only I have ever fished.
When I fish local I may not be top of the heap but usually I hold my own. Why then can't I catch diddly in this entire series? Do I suck that bad?
Today we put in 9 hard hours running live and dead baits. Couldn't buy a king but was mauled by sails catching one on the livies. They don't count for squat. On the troll I couldn't buy a dolphin or a wahoo but had a good tuna and the omnipresent summer hummer neeters...
I can usually do better at far away places on strange boats than I do in this series and its right in my back yard. What do I do? Quit this series or get madder 'n hell and stick to it til I score?

Everyone hates a quitter...keep at it. Your zigging and the fish are zagging. Eventually paths will cross.

Stick to it Deep. I have done well in places on tour that I have never been. Then I end up in my own backyard and end up doing zilch! If you have the skills to go to different areas and out fish the locals your doing great. We all end up getting comfortable on or own play ground, only to wiff when it is our turn at bat. Keep your head up and go back at it!

I get so jealous when you say there is a tourney in your backyard. I sit here in Colorado and tie knots. Over and over. I have a pack of ballys rigged in the freezer. I read endlessly about the best way to do it. I read magazines. I read Hemingway. I watch fishing shows. I look at forums like this. I watch terrafin every day, watching the warm water move north like an 8 year old waiting for Christmas. I look at bouy weather in San Carlos. I have an email sent to my Iphone every time a report is made on the SC forum. I read Fred A's 'Shark Trollers Bilble' because I want a thresher this year. All the while I am stuck in Colorado. Catching trout. But at times they are nice trout.

Consider yourself lucky to have such conundrums. I wish I did

But I will soon thank God!

I caught my biggest Atlantic Sailfish to date fishing for Kings.. Who Knows!

I mean to tell ya... This is uncanny. Bucc cup, silversailfish derby, north south, Old Port Cove all placed well or won. I average 3 fish a day in good season and have yet in this series to post any points.
Then on KDWs I have taken big money in CCA, Kiwannis, Arthur Smith, GPBBA, SFNA, Hospice, and agin I have to throw a qualifier on the dock.
Sword? I solo stabbed a pig the night before this years event. Two full nights and only had one bite again same series... I suck.

But you guys are right. I'm Deep and gotta stick to it no matter how painful and embarassing...
