I don't know how many yards, but I know that I can crank up the drag and stop a 150# bluefin before I need to worry about it I use the real heavy PP so I don't need a leader and on't have to worry about another connection weakening the line, haven't had a problem with line shy tuna yet. Any mono or flouro you use at night with all the plankton and stuff that rises to the top is gonna refract light off it, especially if you're using a hydroglow (jmho). At night I can see the flouro underwater but the braid disappears. We couldn't get them to hit 60# flouro with chunks but they'd inhale a chunk on straight 180# braid. I'd have to try it again, but I'm pretty convinced. Oh yeah, got the silver Hx and a red Mx.

awesome longfin, thanks again guys for the advice. Additionally, it seems like Anywhere you look, no matter in a store, or online, all the avet prices start virtually identical. Has anyone found anywhere that sells them for less, or is does the market have a strict price on these reels. The HXW is 429.00, 20 bucks more than the regular size HX.

Longfin, check this out man, http://www.anglerscenter.com/reels_avet.htm

They are offering the reel at the market price, are spooling it with your choice of line, a reel cover, and shipping, all for free. Thats a pretty sweet deal!

Another good site for Avet reels is:

    http://www.cabbagekeyrodandreel.com/default.asp

I ordered 2 EXW 4/0's with 80lb JB hollow and 50 lb mono topshots and they have been great. Absolutely dominate normal sized yellowfin and longfin and are lighter then the 30's and 50's we normally use.

Don't count on getting 28lbs of usable drag out of that reel. Mine makes about 19lbs on strike with 22-23lbs max before the handle starts to bind up. Sure, you can get 28lbs, and may even have some freespool left, but cranking wont be fun, and you'll probably ruin the pinion bearing.

We use the regular hoo-x, for jigging yft in the NE canyons, no need for the wide. It will hold 400 yards of hollowcore, just have a loop at the end and buy or make some wind on leaders and attach as needed. You can use flouro, and quickly change out sizes. Check out cabbage key rod and reel, he has great prices, free hollowcore on almost all avet's and many other reels, and free shipping.

That rod really proved itself that night! it was awesome! It worked good on the hoo's too!
