There are two different methods to finish this braid as pointed out above. Both will work just fine but some find one or the other easier to complete. I have shown you the one that I use, which is just a three turn clinch.

I would have to say without watching you make the braid that it is probably not a tight braid or you are just not making it long enough. To make the braid tight and neat you have to keep constant pulling pressure on the lines as you make the braid moves.

A 2inch length should be more than enough if all else is made properly. I think our friend down under will tell you that the length is usually as long as it takes the decky to finish his cigarette. Hope this hepls.
