Me personally, I can tie a bimini faster than the Plait, but alot of big fish gurus favor the plait for going through guides and the the shock "spring" |

Very nice vid and very informative!!! Question, will the plait still hold if one of the lines is broke?

I'm not sure I follow the question about the line breaking, but if any one of the four lines that form the loop to loop break I would have to yes, it's going to fail. The same way it would with any knot forming a loop.
As far as the strength of the Braid, if it's tied correctly it will not fail. We have been using it know for years and have yet to have one break. Mono, Spider Wire and Spectra in line tests as low as 30lb. The lighter the line the more of a snubber or shock effect you will get. |

Hey Chuck,
I was asking because on my trolling rods I still run conventional style leaders with a spider hitch, double line to a swivel. If I can get away from a spider hitch I will because of the lower profile plait. But with a spider if one of the doubled lines break the other will still hold. I was just wonder is the second line in a plait would still hold or would the weave come undone? Thanks in advance. Capt. Tom |

Over here in Aus. This knot is used by the large proportion of tournament anglers on tackle from 6 kilo (12lb) all the way up to 80lb. Its a knot that most everyone I know 'just learns' to tie.. you do enough of them, they become second nature.
I've never had one slip.... ever ! Bloody strong too ! Cheers Wayne |

Another, better way to finish the Aussie braid is to double up the tag end into a loop, braid the loop itself into the braid for a few inches, then pass the entire loop of the doubled line through the tag-end loop that you braided into the braid, then pull the tag end tight and trim. Sounds complicated but it's easy if you see it done once.

A lot of guys who only fish occasionally tie these at the start of the season and use the same knot all year. I've seen this on a few occasions. Cheers |

Okay Chuck, i have practiced it over the last 2 days and i got the braid part down and looking good. i just must not be ending it correctly as no matter how i try making the loops to end it when i put pressur eon the line the knot slips and closes up the loop. what am i doing wrong or can you give better instructions on how to end it.
