    ASA questions?

A business friend suggested the asa tourney. i looked at the website and have a couple questions:

is a 21 or 23' contender big enough to handle the northern stops? i would use my 35 closer to home (va beach). i would look to pick up a used 21/23 and trailer to the other stops.

would be doing it for fun, although we want to catch fish which leads me to next question...

can you invite a "local expert" on board to help with unfamiliar areas? is that legal?

I could not find anything on the website, but are there different divisions for different size boats?

Yes a 21/23 footer would be fine. all tournys are set close to the action except the hamptons you will have to make a run. the long island sound can get hairy. this year there will be a 26 & under class for newbies, 1st 2nd years in. local guy is ok, all on the boat need to be asa members for all the cash. been in since 02, lot of fun, hard work, good people. good luck team fullblown

21 23 ' would not a full fledge problem but the weather can kick up and be nasty most will fish regardless so its a tuff call know you and your boats abilities and at what point do you feel uncomfortable. I know a lot of times tournies should of been called off but we went any way normally lays out in the afternoon.

I would be more than happy to help with anything.

Between Chuck and I we arrange slips hotels etc what ever is needed for the Contenders.

look ot the results for angler of the year 2005 that was in a 21 foot pequot!!!

i had the pleasure of being the mate that year ,including a 360 mile round trip from manisquan inlet and the size of the boat didnt matter.

Its all in how you wiggle your worm and what kind of juice you use !!!! Good luck to all and to all a good bite .

Here is some more info on the 26' and under

Yes, there will be $1000 in extra prize money awarded to 1st or 2nd year members fishing a 26 or under each tournament. This is in addition to the regular 10 place payouts we have allocated for each tournament. As with all prize money, it's based on a 50 boat field.

You'll be fine in a 21' or 23' contender. I fish the northeast in a 23 open and it's a bad ass little boat that has never made me sweat. In the fall the really bad day's are the day's we mug them up so go for it. Hope to see you out there. This is going to be our first year doing ASA.
