The eel, mullett and big squid were the bait of choice for many many years for white marlin. The ease of rigging ballyhoo and the cost of ballyhoo have made those 3 great baits almost a thing of the past. Some of the best still run em. The MD state record Blue Marlin, 958lbs I think was caught on an eel.

We always have eels ready. If you take them and salt them down real good for a day clean them off and then rub them with a scotch brite pad they turn a bright blue color. White marlin love them and will pick them out of the spread. We once caught the same fish twice just after releasing him on the same bait.

Awe, someone gave up the scotch brite secret already. My buddies laughed at me for scrubbing my eel last winter striper fishing. When that little blue demon wore them out, they quieted down pretty quick. Strange how that scotch brite pad disappeared.

Yes, Darren, but the real question is, how big of a tile do you catch off a 24'' eel?
