Anyone seen this big fish before ?

Anyone, any info on this ? Found it on a miscellaneous photo site on the net, but it has no info. I suspect it's commercially caught, maybe in Central America ? It does look like a black......

It's hard to judge the length due to the twist of the body, but this was a big old girl......

PS: someone might know their fork-lifts and give us a good idea of the size of the vehicle ?

    Vanuatu

I believe this fish was caught commercially on the Island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. I am not sure but I have seen a very similar picture of a estimated 2,000lb Blue on a forklift from Vanuatu and I think this is the same picture. They get some big girls there, makes the 850lb fish we saw in Bermuda a few years ago look very small.

From Cargo class, I think a standard Pallet is 40x48in. so depending on where they set the forks to pig that hog up...

I think it was the fish caught by the Happy Hooker out of Portugal while they were fishing in Cape Verde for the 2010 World Cup......1097lbs.....at least thats what the world cup FB page says

The Vanuatu fish is a different forklift, and an ancient photo, maybe 35 years old or more. This photo, in contrast, is very fresh.

The Happy Hooker fish, from 2010 is the most likely answer, judging by comparitive photos. The fork-lift appears to be the same and some of the markings on the fish seem the same. The pallet is the same colour too.

Thanks for that then, gents - the forum I found it on was a Mexican one, hence the reason I thought it might have been a Central American fish. That, and the "long-line snood" wrapped around its nose....
