    This was caught in the canyons off of Delaware last weekend and was wondering what is is as I have never seen these before.

    Could it be a juvenile Barracuda?

    It is a Snake mackeral. Confirmed by a Marine Bioligist.

    It's not a Snake Mackerel. A Snake Mackerel (Gempylus serpens) has finlets posterior to its dorsal and anal fins. That specimen has no finlets. It's a juvenile Longnose Lancetfish (Alepisaurus ferox).
