Anyone ever have a day like this?

I was out fishing the Massey's Canyon about a month ago during weather conditions that were worse then predicted. Everyone on the radio hadn't seen a fish all day. One boat reported they had four overnight trips in a row with no fish. We managed to raise to mahi in the 50 pound range and one wahoo probably about 30 pounds but all of them spit the hook at the boat before they could be gaffed . It was incredibly frustrating. Anyone have any tips for preventing this or was it just dumb luck?

Welcome aboard. If you don't a load of days like that you're not fishing. Some days they dont stay stuck. Sometimes its human error and other days its just dumb bad luck. The fishing gods have a way of evening the score though. Some days it all goes right...

Yeah i agree, unfortunately a couple of days after that trip we ran into some heavy weather and broke 4 out of 8 motor mounts on our boat (turns out the previous had the engines misaligned and that was causing undue stress). So now we are out of the water for the rest of this season . Kinda ended pretty shitty but the good news is there was also propeller damage to the boat so the insurance is covering the repairs . So hopefully next season all will be well and we'll be at it again to get those pesky palegics!

hamer31.. sucks about the motor mounts.. been there done that.. just curious what the relation was between the prop damage and the engine mounts breaking?

well they said that we hit something and that in turn caused the motor mounts to break... i mean it is very possible that had something to do with it, but either way it works out
