I didn't personally but I know of a guy who has a few times. Caught a load of meatfish and had as many as a dozen bills in the spread throughout the day. He said it's like fishing in the Bahamas except you burn at least three times the fuel you would normally burn running to the break.

His last trip that I know of he burned over 800 gallons.

Is it worth it? I think not. For that amount of money, it'd be cheaper to go fish in the Bahamas.

My neighbor fished the far side once. He slayed the meatfish. I have all intentions on trying to sometime. Its no farther of a run than the boys up north do on a regular trip.

I've been 4 times personally, and I know a few people who've gone more. Good bite on dolphin and big tunas at times, but it's not worth it in my opinion. Never had an okay day out there. You either crush them or don't do crap. If you can find a good seamount, the swordfishing can be awesome also.

Depends on where you go out of. It is about 60 mi from southport just to get to the west side of the stream and that depends on the time of year.

What is the range on your cat? Sounds like this trip should be a multiple day trip, if you can get the weather.

Side note, what kind of cat? do you like it? I'm thinking of getting a world cat either 24 or 27.

keep in mind the current that you are running thru, up north we dont have anything close the that current. it wouldn't be any fun runnin home in a north blow in the gs

A few longliners I know have made one set and watched the gear drift away at 10-12 kts while trying to run it down with 8 kt boats! As far as distance once it's over your head deep and to far to swim it doesn't really matter look at the pilgrims and the 26' blow boats they came in. As far as money goes heck you can drift along ways in the stream for generator fuel only.
