    Any News from Venezuela?

I have not heard much chatter this season from boats or people visiting Venezuela. Seemed to be a popular destination last year for people on this site including myself...

Interesting that you should mention VZ, as I just saw a brief note in one of the maritime news services about Chavez nationalizing the nation's marinas and ports this past weekend. I'm trying to get in touch with some friends of mine down there right now to see how this will affect them if it's true.

So far this spring the bite has been good to excellent, with plenty of small blues and big tunas around the bank.

    Venezuela fishing report

The fishing here at the moment maybe a little slow by Venezuela's standards.

The Big O arrived last week and has started their spring campaign. Boats are averaging 1-3 blue marlin bite and 1-4 sailfish/white marlin bites. There are a lot of gaffer dorados and a few big yellowfin tuna. The water temperature is 78.5 degrees and the pretty blue water is offshore of the bank.

The regular boats from the US are here including Bud Man, Southern Comfort, Waterman, Tijereta, Prowess, Tzzer, Big O, Cherin III, Magic Touch (PR), Pessca Nostrous(PR). More boats are expected to arrive from Aruba the first of April including Prime Time and Alina.

Fishing here in April, May and June are promising to be some great blue marlin fishing.

The slow fishing and lack of reports are due the the World wide economic situation. Otherwise everything here in Venezuela is normal and "business as usual."

I remember seeing your Venezuela pictures, Marlin 1805, on this site last year. Those were some awesome tunas you caught if I recall correctly.

The government said nothing of nationalizing any marinas. The issues are with commercial airports and PORTS. In fact both Port La Guaria and Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiqueita were not mentioned in the government decree.

This issue has no affect on us at all.

The ports are owned by the Govt, and the marinas are still independent. At the rate of discontent, America will be bankrupt before Venezuela!

Straight up from Carlos Gonzalez at Marina Portofino: "Hi Al, it is true but we are talking about the biggest ports related to the big importations of goods. Nothing to do with Marinas, small ports etc.

    Regards
    Carlos"
