    Another Spreader Bar Question

With all the spreader bar questions out there I figured I'd ask one. Has anybody tried building one out of the plastic flying like made by Yummee or Frenzy? I know when we run offshore off SE NC we see lots of schools 15-20 4-8inch flyers. I'm thinking a splash bar rigged with flyers could be killer.

Here is a new video that shows our versions of what you're talking about on both SuperBars and RuckusRaisers and little-to-medium flyers. Check out the line angles to see which ones are running flat and still doing their things, trolled slow or fast. Some good looks at how light the bars are and how hard they are to tangle. As you can see, the rods are light ones and I am one-handing them virtually all of the time, including at the end. And a look at a Toad teaser running which remember, you can make for yourself for very little money.

I love those Carolina Lures flying fish Jim Mackerel makes, but we prefer the hollow squids for bars because of how light they are in the first place and how well they swim in the second. They run like champs on RuckusRaisers too.

When running a Toad under bars, run it down the middle and just in front of the bars. Gamefish don't like to get in front of big teasers. Toads are meant to look like a competitor feeding on the bars, not one meant to get bit itself. That Toad sure looks cool, doesn't it?

Take a close look to see how many of those bars are running flat, off of flatline clips. Our bars hate to go in the water for various hydro and aerodynamic reasons. And please note that the Spider that is running with the bars is being lifted up by me in the 'pit so it's easier to see. That's an eight ounce trolling sinker in front of it. You can fish it both as a pure teaser and armed, to hook and catch fish.

And yes, that's me working the 'pit. I normally shun the spotlight because I frighten too many women, children, and small pets with my ugly mug, but the producer stuck me in there anyway. Oh well, keep the kids, doggies and Mom away from the computer for now!

    Shoot to kill.

And props to The Boxman for providing the inspiration for us to start putting up some video. We will never approach how great his are, but we will do our humble best to follow his example. Thank you, Marty. You da man!

Yes I put together a small 2' bar last year with mini yummee flyers. I pulled it one day and wasn't happy with it but it was rough. I need to pull it anouther day to see what I have to change. I had high hopes for this little bar, they were crushed when I couldn't make it run right. So I just threw it in the console and snapped on my go to bar a 36" bar with nine mini green machines.

    Good Luck,

Thank you, Dorymate. And that is some nice looking rigging there. You don't just know your way around a shop, you obviously know your way around a rigging table too.

Check out the stiff rig that we use. They really work well for us. The stiff rig pulls out of the head after the fish is hooked. The yellow chafing gear is not the usual plastic. It is very, very hard and really resists chafing and tuna, dorado bites. The next shot is how we stiffen a wire rig hook. Then a circle hook rigged to pull out. We do not stiffen circle hooks.

Thanks for the look at your rigging and the nice comment on the video. I love seeing that sort of rigging stuff.

Here's a link to the photo placed above for the flying fish bar by Reel Draggin Tackle. I picked one up also over the winter and can't wait to try it out!

Great price, but I guess that's why they're sold out.

thats what i'm talking about. Any reports on the effectiveness? those are the mini yummees correct? what did you use for a chase bait? I was thinking build the bar from the yummee delta wings, then put a big pink frenzy as the chase bait.

Thanks Fred, but I cannot take credit for rigging that.
As Hroonk said it is a Reel Draggin Bar, Ken makes some wonderful stuff.

Canyon Gear - That thing looks Deadly. Depending on how this works, I may be in the market for more stuff.
