Another OI report 10/4
Made the drive down from Chesapeake saturday morning after watching the weather all week and deciding it would be doable in our 21 ft center console. Pullled into the fishing center at 4:30 and cleared the bridge at 5:00am to slick calm seas. Headed a little north of the point to about the 620-630 and put lines out by 6:30am. Started off with two short bites, one on a naked, and one on a green lantern. Then began to pick off off a few single blackfins and a triple header with all three being landed (only 3 of us on the boat). Missed a few blackfin bites and had a wahoo cut off a pink sea-star behind a chain. Had two other wahoos cut right through our 100lb mono leaders shortly after around the same area. Sent the planer down with meat on wire after the blackfin bonanza, but never got touched. Had pilot whales and dolphins in the mix most of the day in the area as well as a couple flyin fish. Action slowed for us late morning and we trolled north along a sulfur line to about the 700 line, but never came on to anything but dirty looking water. Ran back to around the 650 and caught some decent tiles before we headed in. Had a pretty good day on the water with perfectly calm seas. Final tally:
blackfins 7-14 wahoos 0-3 10 tiles Doug |
