This was the second time in the tournament history that this team has won the event Team Ponta Negra - Pictures attached.
Angler was Joao Paulo da Costa as was in 2004.
Took him 5 hrs to land had the leader in their hand for over an hr and half as they were leadermen and gaff men short and had 18 minutes to spare to boat the fish.
Last year's Grander was 477kg and this year was 464 kgs, thats two granders back to back in Brazil.
The biggest Grander weighed in was 575 kgs in 2001
I have always maintained that the next WR would come from Brazil its only a matter of time. Just have to keep the big ones on the line without been spooled
Where do you go fishing for 3 days out of 365 days ONLY and catch a grander then they never fish there again until next year. Most dont even bother to prefish or cannot due to rough weatehr but when they get out this si what they come back with.
The economy has also effect this event they had 49 teams last year and this year only 29. That means 29 boats fishing for 3 days out of 36 and they come up with Granders. Just goes to show what I maintained they have an amazing fishery if you can get to it,
The fish was caught on one of my personal Custom made Reelaxe lures made for myself I donated 4 years ago to the tournament and now has won and placed there in Brazil each year with this same lure and colour. Note the rusty hooks and rigging ..........dont know how but the fish stayed on.
