    Hiya chaps:

    Thanks everyone for your comments...

Ahi.. I can live with the $$$ because for me it's gonna be a one time purchase but by the time it's skirted and rigged it would be a pretty hole in the wallet for most guys if they lost one. Better bring out the 130 lb tackle and 700 lb+ mono leader, does it affect the action of this lure, does it hell... Joint high hooks when I left were Elio Neves on XIPHIAS (well done because he was out for over three weeks with a busted gearbox when everyone else was catching fish) and Peter Bristow on KATHERINE B. No one fishes to night but the squid guys in small open boats do a variation of the ika shibi technique and do bring up some nice bigeyes now and then.

Anthony.. Actually, I seem to do reasonably OK with the whites when we downsize the stinger bait to a white marlin rig - light tackle light drag small hook, but trying to hook them on heavy tackle, bigger lures and bigger/heavier hooks can be a royal pain in the ass, no doubt about that. I like to try for whites if they are around, they're great fun ... but if those big tunas are around I'm gonna be trying my damndest to put one on the hook. Over the last few seasons I've done pretty good on the whites (not Wahoonbox good but good enough to feel confident about nailing the little suckers), but done very poorly on the big summer tunas and never yet caught one of the 200 lb kine, so if there is any kind of tuna bite I'm gonna be faithfully pulling that 10" bullet/jet way back and watching for the big hole in the water when Mr. bigeye eats it. 9/0 strong hooks, 300 lb fluoro no bird, no splashing swivel, minimum leader in the water, come on you big sucker, COMEON! Whitey will hit a lure like this, but hookups won't be that good, having said that, sometimes you do get lucky, the CABO SAO JOAO pinned a 70 lb white on one of their big marlin baits (11/0 Jobus). Awesome sashimi...

Murphy... Yeah, those metal jets aren't too fashionable, but they're good baits. As far as hooksets and hooks... The Korean hooks are fine and very strong, but they need a bit of punch to send them home ie heavier tackle/drags. I'll fish them from 8/0 to 10/0 in smaller lures, on heavier tackle but 11/0 and up I think I still prefer the mustads, or the Jobus/Hays Hooks. I think the latter two are pretty hard to beat, unfortunately they are also expensive. I don't think corrosion/electrolysis is such a problem with cad plated hooks like the 7731, 7691 mustads like it is with the jobus, and of course not an issue with stainless hooks. I too like a 7731 front hook, 7691 tail hook for a 180 degree rig but personally I don't like, or use shrink tube, don't like messing around with heat guns and personally, I think tight wrapped electrical tape gives better insulation from saltwater, I've seen a lot of creeping rust under heat shrink. I like to use electrical tape, and will re-wrap and re-tape after every fish. Just my thoughts anyway...

Patudo, I agree on most shrink tubing. What we have found that works the best - in our opinion for what its worth - is a shrink tubing that is a double wall with the inner wall being an adhesive that melts and completely seals out water. Its mainly used for electronics, but works perfect for lures as well. Plus it can be somewhat easily removed to re-rig if necessary.

All good feedback and comments - great to be among top notch capt/anglers
