OK Marty is gonna shoot me for this but here goes. IF you're were going to drop 5 lures in the water for a fast troll, 8 knots or better, what would it be and what position would you fish it?

Darren,
I would put out a polu-kai, black bart, acrylic jet heads, williamson, moldcraft chuggers and some other custom lures I have either made or purchased in Hawaii - all 12-14+ inches in length. The slant heads or scoop heads go on the long riggers because they track wildly. The straight runners go on the flats and center. Ill show you them sometime.
We caught the blue last year when my brother put out the polu-kai. Didnt take long for that fish to show up.
Chad
Schnieder Yaps, Schnieder Teardrops, Paoluka Rat, Moldcraft Super Chugger,
Moldcraft Long Range and anything Black Bart. I have to say however
that there are a ton of lures I have never had the chance to pull.

Without a doubt my best Plastic for marlin in a b/w chrome jethead 6 inches long fished on the right flatline. This lure produces better then naked hoos for me BUT my hook up ratio is much lower on plastic. I would round the spread with a a black/purple sew witch with a bullyoo on the right short. B/pink mini-super chugger on the right long. red/pink mini-zuker on the left flat. Green machine on the right short and black and purple mini chaos pusher jet on the left long. Green machine and bird on the baltimore line and a mini-agitator with a showerspray daisy chain on the short middle rigger. Teasers with be dquid chain with a b/w islander/bullyhoo combo on the right and squid chain with a big marlin lure.
Aloha Graceland
Can you mention what pole and reel your using for each position.
The reason I ask is that there are so many lures, each designed for a different hookset.
If I know the rods and reels, I can better match lures and hooksets to the positions. The rod has to have enough stiffness to bury a hook. I wouldn't reccommend a lure that runs best with a 11/0 if your using a tuna stick..
That is unless Patudo stepped in to help with the hook-up. He knows how to use lighter rods with big lures much better than I do.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Leave it to the Marshall Islands Wildman to throw more details into the equation. The spread I am talking about is for blues, but we can throw whites and sails in too for the fun of it. Like I said my goal was to be able to hit a faster troll to cover more ground, otherwise I could fish meat, which I have a pretty good handle on. The rods and reel choices are as follows, position them as you like. Two 70VSW's on 80 lb roller rods, 4 50 VSW's on 50 class roller rods, two 30's on 30# ring guide rods, and five TLD 25's on 30 class ring guide rods. Now have it.![]()
DARREN THIS IS A GREAT THREAD THAT WILL GO PLACES!!!.........AND EVEN THOUGH I HARP MEAT MEAT MEAT................I DO THROW THE ENTIRE SPREAD INTO THE EL PLASTIQUE MODE FROM TIME TO TIME.............I LOVE IT WHEN YOU GUYS SHARE YOUR PLASTIQUE SPREAD..................

Allright I'll get started wit da camera.

Fifties fer da rest wit a couple sizes pitch baits standin by on da 30s
As far as I'm concerned long rigger and shotgun lures are about the same darn thing. The only difference is the face is smaller on the shotgun. You get the smaller face by going down a size in lures or by say choosing a Pakula Guru or Phantom over a Sprocket or Smokin Joe. They look alike but Peter made the Phantom with a smaller face so as to not draw attention away from the transom. Plus the smaller face is better for a smaller outfit since it causes less drag.
Some guys go to the extreme and run a bullet or round nose back there. Those lures will catch a few marlin but likely more tuna because they have little action.
I like to see blue marlin lures splash or at least smoke.
Slayer choices for shot gun are cupface, listed in order of my personal succes over the last four years strickly blue marlin; Black Bart Super Pro Jet,,,Four hole slant jet, Pakula Phantom, Islander Sea Searcher. The Sea Searcher is the largest I put back there, I use it when sharks - it don't sink fast as leaded lures thus less sharks,,or ono are biting long. Mahi luv it too.
Attached is a picture of some four hole jets made by various Hawaiian lure makers. Some don't have jets I know but they produce just as good with or with out holes.
If ya want the Black Bart lure get it from his website. Other places sell the head but they put skirts on it that don't fit as nice as the skirts Papa designed for the lure. Plus there are still lots of fakes that are not nearly as good,,,I'll show a couple latter.
I'll put up more positions latter. Any questions about the shotgun.??It is pretty much a stealthy mop up lure that gets the one that left the pattern..Or you can drive so that the shot gun comes extreamly close to floating structure by turning the boat as it gets closer. Don't just put it back there and forget it!!

great thread and some AWSOME info slayer!!
Ahi you just told me more than I had learned in two weeks of reading. I had pretty much figured out big stuff on the transom and was trying to convince myself that was where the 70's needed to go. I was just having trouble with the concept since it is so backwards from the tuna spread.
Marty pulling all plastics? Say it ain't so oh great Wahooski!!! Well since you spilled the beans keep on going and tell us what a Carolina boy does when he turns to the all foo foo spread.
And for all of you that don;t know me, I am a died in the wool meat fisherman, so all this is way new to me. That being said don't assume I know anything at all, cause I probably don't.
